How to Get Children to Behave

By Sheila

Spanking, time-out, or go to your room, it’s all a matter of what works with your child and no one knows your child better than you.
In my opinion a spanking never hurts a child (if it is done in the right way). I’m not talking about beating or slapping, but a good old fashion butt warming.
How many times do you punish your child by sending them to their room? Guess what, that’s exactly where most children like to go. In their room most of them have a television set, VCR, games, music, computer, and a soft place to lie down with their feet up. Hey, if they are confined to their room there are no chores to do.
As for “time out”, who spends the most time in “time-out” you or your child? You are kept busy seeing that they stay in “time-out” mode that you don’t get much else done. To me this would be sooo stressful.
So, I say spank their bottoms, give them a light chore to do, and go on your way with whatever you were doing. This works for me and my children.

Fishing: How Not to Get Skunked

4/18/2006
Dina
How to go fishing
The first thing you do is to get your fishing license.
Make sure it is a warm, sunny day, no rain in sight.
You have to have insect repellent and sunscreen with you.
You must have a fishing poles and a tackle box.
You need the right kind of bait; it can be live or artificial.
Next you need water; it can be a lake, a river, or even a small stream.
You will need to take along food and drinks for when you get hungry or thirsty.
You need to have on comfortable shoes and clothing in case you might have to walk in the water or up and down the banks of the stream.
To have protection from the sun, you also need a hat and sunglasses.
The most important thing you need is to make sure ....you hold your mouth right, so that you do not get skunked.
Every spring or early summer my husband and son get ready to go fishing. I don’t know which one gets the most excited about it. It is a special time for them; doing something that both of them enjoy. They get up early and leave, and are gone until late in the afternoon or longer. My son got started fishing when he was two years old. He has the first big fish that he caught when he was only two and a half years. The fish weighed two and a half pounds and was mounted and is hanging in my living room now. This is their favorite time of year, to walk up and down the Rockcastle riverbanks. Some children like to play ball, but not my son give him a fishing pole any day over a football.

It only takes about 2 hours to get there from Rockcastle Co. a little bit of a drive but once you’re they you will be very glad. I am going to give you directions on how to get to this wonderful place.

How to Build a Summer Wardrobe for Women

Summer is almost here and that means wearing the right clothes to survive the heat and still looking stylish. Here are a few ideas on building a summer wardrobe that is hassle free and effortless.

1. Check your closet for the clothing you wore last summer See if they are in good condition, in style, and still fit.
2. Bring out your gemstone jewelry like earrings, and rings. Also bring out the handbags. Consider going to yard sales or the junior’s department to find inexpensive jewelry and handbags.
3. Store all your favorite leather handbags and switch to a two-tone canvas, woven straw, or a lighter neutral color. Or if you would like, choose bright colored handbags.
4. Join the rest of the nation and get on the Capri/crop pant bandwagon, and pair them with tee shirts and tanks that are bright colored. For a more flattering Capri/crop pant look, choose a wide leg. Also choose bright colors or neutrals.
5. Invest in a flowery sundress for a summer feminine look. This can take you out to supper by wearing heels. Also you can wear a jacket or a cardigan over it.
6. Always make sure your wardrobe includes a basic white tee which you can wear with anything.
7. To keep a polished look, buy the right shoes. Strappy, heeled sandals are great for summer. Also buy flip flops and a pair of canvas sneakers.

Tip: When you are wearing sandals, flip flops, etc, make sure that your feet have had a pedicure.

Correct Bad Behavior In Cats
If you show your cat affection, and spend time with it, it will normally respond by showing you good behavior. Usually, if a cat becomes aggressive toward you, such as hissing, biting, and scratching there is something wrong.
While petting your cat, if it responds back with aggressive behavior, say no, than discontinue petting your cat.
When signs of aggressive behavior are present, leave your cat alone.
When petting your cat avoid petting in certain areas, if you get aggressive responses.
Reward your cat with treats and affection, when your cat displays good behavior.
Avoid roughhousing when playing with your cat.
Show you cat plenty of affection.
Taking your cat to the vet may prevent some behavior problem because some behavior problem may be due to the fact that your cat is sick.

How To Decorate an Old Fashioned Christmas Tree

Back in the 1800s, homemade and handcrafted ornaments adorned most Christmas trees. For the simplicity and beauty of an old-fashioned celebration, add antique ornaments, reproduction antiques or homemade decorations to your tree. I wasn’t born back in the 1800s but I will give a list of how my family decorated our Christmas tree.

1. My family has a tradition we would wait until Christmas Eve then we would go into a field and find the perfect cedar tree. Then my dad would get the axe and cut down the tree and bring it home.
2. We would get the tree back home and my dad would put it in the stand and trim the branches. While he worked on the tree mom and us kids would get out the lights and ornaments and get ready.
3. Next we would go through boxes of old ornaments that my mom had saved for years. Some of the ornaments mom and dad have collected from their family and some mom would find at yards sales and flea markets.
4. A lot of the decorations my brothers and sisters and I would make. We would get construction paper and make a big chain with green and red paper. One time I remember my sister found a bird nest and she wanted to put that on the tree. We all told her it was ugly and needed to take it off but mom let her leave it there.
5. Sometimes mom would pop popcorn and we would get a string and a big needle and put popcorn on a string and tied it. Then we would put the string of popcorn on the branches. We would eat a lot of the popcorn and mom would have to make more.
6. There were times at school we would make crafts for Christmas and whatever we made, we would bring home and put it on our tree. When Christmas was over mom would put them in the ornament box and save them for next year.
7. My dad would get candy canes and we would hang those on the branches. Of course, before Christmas ended the candy canes would be gone.
8. After my brothers and sisters and I finished. Mom would get a clean sheet out of the closet and put it under the tree.
9. My baby sister would always get to put the angel on top of the tree. My dad would pick her up and she would put the angel on the tree.
10. Next of course, what little presents there were, mom would let us put them under the tree.
11. The last step would be to check the water in the Christmas tree stand every other day.

How to Feed a Baby who has Acid Reflux

My daughter Bailey was born on January 18, 2006.We started her on Good Start formula when we brought her home. She did really well for about the first week and a half. After that first week Bailey started having reflux. The reason I know this is my first daughter did the same thing. I took Bailey to the doctor a few days later. The doctor examined her and said she had reflux. He started her on a medicine called Axid. Axid is specifically for babies that have reflux. Bailey’s doctor also changed her formula and he explained to me on how to feed her and what to do after she eats. So here are a few steps on how to feed a baby with reflux.

1. The first step is to feed your baby regular baby food.
2. After your baby is fed you need to keep them upright for about 30 to 40 minutes.
3. Watch for certain foods or activities that can cause the reflux to be worse.
4. Foods that trigger reflux are: chocolate, citrus fruits, caffeine, and carbonated drinks.
5. Reduce the baby’s intake of these kinds of foods.
6. The baby’s last feeding needs to be at least 30 minutes to an hour before bedtime.

Crocheting an Afghan

This has been a hobby of mine since I was ten years old. My grandmother taught my cousin and I how to crochet. When I was in 4-H as a child, I won a lot of events that I entered with the things that I crocheted

You will need to choose the color of yarn that you want to use.
You will need a crocheting hook
You will need to chain 150 stitches.
Turn and in the fourth stitch; slip stitch this will make a double stitch out of the three chained stitches.
Then you will add four more double crochet stitches in the same stitch; this will look like a shell when you are finished.
Count over 2 stitches and slipstitch in this spot.
Count over 2 stitches and made a shell in this spot. (A shell is 5 double stitches together)
Repeat steps six and seven across the rest of the rows.
Turn and repeat until you get the size of afghan that you want. You will need to put a trim on you afghan. This just makes the afghan look better.

How to Relieve Stress

How To Relieve Stress

  1. Realize that something is not right. When you feel like that tense feeling you must then realize that something is not right.
  2. Stop what you are doing.
Leave the area that or the project that you are engulfed in. I would recommend that if you could, go outside. Fresh air does the body and the mind so much good. If you are not able to leave the building, then go to the bathroom.
  3. Once you are away from the area, and then take a few deep breaths. You could also do some stretching exercises. The exercises make all of those tight muscles less tense.
  4. Go talk to someone. Even if you are not familiar with the person that you are talking to, try this. This will take your mind off of the situation that you are being faced with.
  5. Go back to the area that you were at if you feel that you are ready. If you still feel stressed then you may want to take a longer break.
  6. Once you start back doing the job, or project that you was previously doing make sure that you breathe slowly and do not let the job get to you.
If you are still feeling stressed then you may want to ask someone to help you.
  7. If there is not any help around, then just stop the project and then walk away and come back to it at a later time.
  8. The whole point is to not let things get to you.
